Hello,
You may be wondering what all this is about and frankly I am not sure either! I am currently a LIS student myself, hoping to become a librarian. First and foremost I am definitely a member of generation-'online' and I was so happy to see a lot of members of the librarian community so heavily invested in computers and the web. I see the role librarians play changing so heavily in the immediate future, and information for us is one of the biggest things that I see making this new transition into the 21st Century Educators smooth and positive.
I started this project out for several reasons…
- Seeing fellow students struggle with some Web 2.0 Tools, I wanted to consolidate information on the web and help explain it if I could.
- A forum for myself to store information that I kept stumbling across in my own web navigations and through other librarians.
- I thought perhaps I could find other librarians interested in collaborating and contributing to forums and articles that I could post for others.
- Make a website from scratch, and work with HTML, CSS, PHP, JAVA, and MySQL in conjunction, as well as start to understand server side website hosting.
…With those ideas in mind, this project was undertaken, now the goal is to work on it a little every day.
